GitHub Enterprise Cloud (with data residency)
Last updated: August 21, 2026
Span connects to GitHub Enterprise Cloud with data residency through the GitHub Enterprise integration. That is GitHub’s cloud tenant on your own ghe.com subdomain (for example, https://acme.ghe.com), not github.com.
Span creates a public GitHub App inside an organization on that tenant so you can install it on any organization there. The app is read-only.
If your teams use github.com (including a standard GitHub Enterprise Cloud plan on github.com), connect the GitHub integration instead. This article is only for Cloud with data residency.
Before you begin
You will need:
Admin access to Span (or the Integrations Admin role).
Permission to create a GitHub App on the tenant (typically an owner of the app-owner organization).
Your enterprise hostname, e.g.
acme.ghe.com— hostname only, nohttps://.The GitHub organization that should own the app.
Allow popups from Span. GitHub App creation opens in a new tab.
Setup
Step 1 — Open GitHub Enterprise in Span
Go to Settings → Tools & Integrations.
Open GitHub Enterprise.
Step 2 — Create the GitHub App
Under GitHub App Creation (status Not created until this succeeds):
Set Deployment to Cloud (with data residency) — hosted by GitHub on your enterprise’s own
ghe.comsubdomain.Enter Hostname — hostname only, e.g.
acme.ghe.com.Enter App Owner Organization — the organization on that tenant where the app will be created, e.g.
engineering-org(name only, not a path).Click Create GitHub App.
GitHub opens so you can confirm the app, then redirects back to Span. The badge should change to Created.
Step 3 — Connect organizations
Connect stays disabled until the app exists (“Complete the setup above before connecting.”).
Click Connect.
Install the app on each GitHub organization Span should read, and choose all or selected repositories.
You can connect more than one organization on the same tenant. Each install is a separate connection.
FAQ
Server vs Cloud (with data residency)?
Server is self-hosted on your infrastructure (e.g. github.company.com). Cloud (with data residency) is hosted by GitHub on your ghe.com subdomain. Pick the option that matches how you log in to GitHub.
Can I install the app on more than one organization?
Yes. The app is public on your tenant so it can be installed on any organization there after it is created.
The Create GitHub App tab did not open.
Allow popups for Span and try again.
Connect is disabled.
Finish GitHub App Creation first. Connect unlocks when the app status is Created.
