Span measures adoption, usage, and spend across the AI coding tools your team uses, and connects that activity to delivery outcomes.
Why it matters
Most teams use more than one AI tool, and each vendor reports usage differently. Span brings them into one view, so you can compare tools side by side and see whether AI use is changing how work ships.
How it works
Span gathers AI activity in up to four ways. Some tools support more than one, and each added method fills in more detail.
API connection: An organization-level connection to the tool's admin API. It covers adoption, usage, and spend.
OpenTelemetry: Usage metrics sent directly from the tool.
Coding hooks: A lightweight install on developer machines that captures AI-assisted coding activity in more detail. Available for macOS, Windows, and Linux (beta), and deployable through common MDM tools.
Detected from pull requests: Span recognizes work from autonomous coding agents in your pull request activity, with no extra setup.

Detected from pull requests: Devin, Codegen, Codex Cloud, and Copilot coding agent. Span also detects AI-written code in pull requests directly, so you can see AI's share of merged code before any tool is connected.
Setup
An admin connects API-based tools from Span's settings. OpenTelemetry and coding hooks are set up with your engineering team, and your Span team will walk you through the options that fit your tools.
Things to know
Start with what you have. An API connection alone gives you adoption and spend. Hooks and OpenTelemetry add detail when you are ready.
Claude Code accounts. The API connection covers Anthropic API-plan and Claude Enterprise accounts. Claude Team-plan usage can be captured through coding hooks or OpenTelemetry instead.
Agent work needs no setup. Pull request detection works as soon as version control is connected.
